What is the Saver Day Pass?

The Saver Day Pass is a date-specific ticket for travel within the GA Travelcard area of validity. It can be worth comparing for one long travel day. Advance prices are quota-based and change with availability.

Coverage and what to check

Versions are offered with and without an eligible Half Fare entitlement, in first or second class. Validity runs until 5am the following morning. Do not assume it includes the Swiss Travel Pass museum benefits or general mountain discounts.

Is it right for your itinerary?

Choose your travel date and add up the tickets you would otherwise buy that day. Include covered local connections. If your plan depends on mountain weather, weigh the saving against the restricted refund conditions.

What you are buying: one day of covered travel

The Saver Day Pass is tied to a selected date within the GA Travelcard area of validity. It is useful to compare when a day involves a long transfer, a return outing or several covered connections. It is not a multi-day visitor pass and it does not automatically provide the Swiss Travel Pass's museum programme.

Check each leg on the validity map, especially mountain transport. A mountain destination being reachable by train or cable car does not by itself mean the full journey is included. Leave separately charged sections in your budget.

Choose the right fare category

  • With Half Fare: buy this version only if you have an accepted entitlement valid on the travel date.
  • Without Half Fare: compare the corresponding price if you do not hold that entitlement.
  • First or second class: select the class you will actually use; the ticket does not automatically include an upgrade.

Children need the appropriate child entitlement for their circumstances. Do not assume that buying a Saver Day Pass automatically issues a complimentary Swiss Family Card.

Why the price changes

Advance fares are sold in limited price levels. An early search may reveal a lower level, but the starting price is not guaranteed for a particular date. Check the complete passenger and fare category before comparing offers.

SBB's booking window normally opens six months ahead and closes the day before travel. Check the seller's actual availability and purchase conditions. If your plans are uncertain, weigh the potential saving against the restrictions on changing or refunding the ticket.

Example: a transfer with sightseeing en route

For a hypothetical Zurich-to-Interlaken travel day, compare the day pass with the tickets for your intended route and any covered local connections. If you plan a stop in Lucerne, allow enough time for luggage arrangements and the onward journey. Check that every proposed leg belongs to the included network.

The ticket's validity until 5am the following morning is not a rolling 24-hour period starting whenever you first board. Plan around the selected date, the published timetable and the last useful connection to your accommodation.

A day pass or a multi-day pass?

A single long transfer is a different decision from a week of daily travel. Compare the date-specific offer with the individual tickets for that day, then price the remaining days separately. For a broader itinerary, use our Swiss rail pass comparison. If your plans include the Glacier Express, check seat availability and reservation costs before committing to the travel date.

How to plan and book

SBB normally sells this product from six months ahead until the day before travel, subject to availability. Check the date, passenger and fare category carefully. A panoramic train can still require a reservation.

  1. Choose travel dates and check route coverage.
  2. Compare the fare for each traveller and travel class.
  3. Check reservations, activation and purchase conditions.
  4. Save tickets and booking details before departure.
